Picking up breakfast at a drive-through window is usually not a big deal. My recent screw-up at McDonald’s probably upset about a dozen customers and I feel sorta bad.
After ordering my breakfast I realized my wallet was still at home. I had already pulled forward in line and still had three cars in front of me. Too late to cancel my order, I pulled out of line and headed home to retrieve my money. It’s roughly a six mile round trip so it should only take me ten minutes and I would still have time to jump back in line and order again without being late for work.
After getting my order I pulled into an empty parking space to enjoy my Egg McMuffin. Inside the McBag was yogurt and and sausage biscuit. My order was completely wrong but I ate it anyway and headed down the road.
Trying too figure out how they screwed up a simple order, I chalked it up to young employees trying to earn weekend beer money. It quickly hit me that it was because I pulled out of line and probably screwed up every order in the time that it took me to go fetch my wallet. For the ten or so folks who also got the wrong order I’m sorry. Next time in line I’ll pay it forward and possibly pick up your tab.
